Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Director of Public Safety, performs various administrative and security related assignments for the University of the Pacific's San Francisco Campus.

Essential Functions
  • Provide non-emergency support services to the campus community including:
    • Lock/unlock doors and check secured doors as scheduled; ensure that doors are properly secured; safeguard property of the University's campus.
    • Check building and property for safety hazards and report maintenance issues and emergency repairs
    • Provide escort services to visitors and disabled patients parking inside the campus garage
  • Provide coverage for clinic, visitor/main entrances and command center as needed including:
    • Monitor controlled access employee entrance to ensure only authorized personnel are admitted; activate entry for authorized individuals as needed
    • Monitor patient/clinic access points
    • Respond to dispatch control instructions
    • Provide information to visitors about public safety matters and disabled parking locations
    • Provide building access for campus events
    • Monitor building entry points and activity by closed circuit camera system to ensure safety and security of building occupants
    • Alert officers of any emergency or situations requiring response
    • Maintain closed circuit camera systems, security radios and building alarm systems
    • Create/replace and activate access control cards for new or existing faculty, staff and students
    • Answer phone calls coming into the Command center
    • Dispatch officers to service calls
  • Support the Director and Assistant Director with administrative responsibilities including:
    • Provide lost and found and other support services for students, employees, and visitors
    • Maintain current lists of reserved parking, disabled parking, and bike cage users
    • Coordinate/participate in semi-annual parking lottery
    • Prepare/coordinate licensure and certification documents for Public Safety staff
    • Prepare and process invoices for payment
    • Assist in preparing presentations to the campus community
    • Coordinate and participate in public safety campus safety drills
    • Coordinate Public Safety events
    • Coordinate with other departments regarding any Public Safety issues or needs
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Safety or designee.

This position serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA) as outlined by the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes that are reported them.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge:
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and general computer skills.
Experience:
  • Minimum of one year working in a customer service related position.
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Working Conditions:
  • Position is full-time, forty (40) hours per week, overtime may be assigned as needed.
  • Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens may be reasonably anticipated. Personal protective equipment will be provided to reduce or eliminate exposure to routine limited infectious agents.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
  • Experience working within an educational or health care environment.
  • Experience operating computerized security systems such as video cameras and access control devices.
Ability to:
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with administrators, faculty, staff, students and public.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Think and act quickly and effectively in emergencies; analyze situations accurately and make appropriate decisions in a timely manner to emergencies or routine service.
  • Provide clear and concise instructions to others in emergency situations.
  • Observe and report facts/information accurately.
Licenses:
  • Current BSIS Security Guard Certification.
  • College-level courses in security, criminal justice, or public safety highly desirable.
  • Valid California Driver's License.

  • Frequent bending, stretching, and reaching required.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 130 pounds in the event of an emergency.
Hiring Range $21.34- $28.27 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
