Job Summary

Clinical Practice Quality Specialists are Registered Nurses with advanced degrees who utilize evidence-informed practice to facilitate and lead improvements in patient care and in the work environment. The Clinical Practice Quality Specialist works independently yet collaboratively to serve as members or leaders of inter-professional teams to implement evidence-based practice and specialty standards, lead improvement and change initiatives and utilize data and standard processes to assess patient outcomes. Major responsibilities include but are not limited to leadership, expert clinical practice in a subspecialty practice area, education of team members, facilitating and conducting evidence-based practice including dissemination, and professional development of the inter-professional team.

Essential Functions

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).

  • Utilizes clinical expertise in planning with nurses and teams to care for complex patients.

  • Leads and facilitates the development of practices, policies, and education to advance high-quality patient outcomes.

  • Advocates for nurses to practice to the full extent of their role in the delivery of health care.


Consultation/Collaboration:

  • Advocates for empowering patients and families as equal partners in the health care team by serving as a resource/clinical expert in an interdisciplinary approach.

  • Liaisons with patient care services in developing, implementing, and supporting patient care clinical policies/procedures and quality improvement efforts for the organization.


Education:

  • Demonstrates an ongoing commitment to self-assessment and growth as well as provision of support and encouragement for the growth of peers and team members.

  • Maintains and teaches others the specialized knowledge and skill necessary to perform techniques and routines in the specialty service area.


Leadership and Program Development:

  • Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the group/unit by completing group projects. Analyzes unit patient care plans currently for evidence of documentation of standards of practice, shares findings with staff, and collaborates in developing a variety of valid and reliable assessment tools to assist staff with documentation records.

  • Expertise in planning and delivering special patient care problems and program coordination.


Quality Improvement:

  • Participates in the hospital's quality improvement program; collaborates in setting unit standards of care and monitors quality indicators.

  • Leads systematic quality and safety initiatives based on trend identification, root cause analysis, process evaluation, and standardization of practice.

  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental, divisional and organizational goals by participating in quality improvement/ research activities, including problem identification, data collection, and monitoring department/division results.

  • Utilizes evidence-informed practice, quality improvement science, and PQMS in improvement efforts.

  • Research and Evidence-Based Practice:

  • Utilizes evidence-based practice to provide proficient developmentally appropriate care and acts as a clinical resource to the health care team in planning, coordinating, and evaluating care and outcomes.

  • Promotes evidence-based practice through evidence review and mentoring of staff in the utilization of evidence and driving practice change and dissemination of science and best practice.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Master's Degree in Nursing is required

Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience. Pediatric nursing and/or healthcare operations experience preferred.

License/Certification: Active Nursing License from the California Board of Registered Nurses

-AND-

Specialty nursing certification required (relevant to specialty area)

-AND-

Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) as a Healthcare Provider / CPR

-AND-

Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or appropriate certification for the area of expertise (NRP, ACLS, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of computer skills; MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Knowledge of hospital record keeping systems.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $181,376.00 to $221,020.80
