Description

Position Summary:

Responsible for insuring that patients receive all appropriate services, as well as performance of other work related duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintains and demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of therapeutic community concepts and treatment principles.
  • Participates as member of the treatment team by being responsible for implementing the therapeutic community milieu including:
    • Modeling and mentoring recovery behaviors,
    • supporting the culture of the TC,
    • supporting conflict resolution,
    • ensuring that therapeutic community structure and activities are implemented according to guidelines,
    • understanding and implementing sanction and reward systems;
    • understanding and implementing the mechanisms of addressing and reporting client behavior that presents opportunities for learning and behavior change
    • maintaining awareness of dynamics occurring in the milieu by active presence and participation in client scheduled activities and when clients are not involved in scheduled activities
  • Maintains and demonstrates a basic understanding of co-occurring disorders, including knowledge required to monitor mental health status and changes in symptoms.
  • Monitors and observes clients, ensures their safety and well-being, and provides motivational enhancement and educational support and guidance to assist them in meeting therapeutic goals.
  • Facilitates didactic (educational) groups and understands concepts taught.
  • Transports clients to appointments, activities and other offsite locations.
  • Conducts routine and random urine and breath drug analysis, contraband searches and other activities designed to ensure the integrity of the TC, and documents findings.
  • Conducts routine and random walk-throughs of facilities and grounds to observe for contraband or other indicators that might impact the therapeutic milieu.
  • Conducts crisis management and de-escalation techniques.
  • Observes, monitors and documents client medication management according to policy and procedures.
  • Completes intake screenings and admission forms and other documentation as assigned.
  • Completes required documentation, including progress notes, behavioral observations, staff logs, incident reports and other documentation appropriately and within stated timeframes; enters data into electronic database.
  • Reports and/or documents client observations and contributes to treatment decisions concerning therapy, discipline, privileges and so forth.
  • Participates in group and individual supervision sessions, client staffings and other meetings as directed.
  • Participates in mandatory training; remains current with new or revised policies, procedures and responsibilities.
  • Serves as member of Quality Improvement Team and conducts assigned quality improvement activities.
  • Other duties and activities as assigned.
  • As mandated by Presidential Order all employees of WestCare Foundation, Inc. and all affiliates of WestCare Foundation, Inc. will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 effective 12/08/2021. Employees that have requested a Medical or Religious Exemption, which has been approved by Human Resources will be required to test for the virus weekly.
  • During your tenure with WestCare there may be new requirements, including, but not limited to vaccinations that are issued by local, State, Federal, and/or Funders that WestCare may have to comply with. Should this occur Human Resources or appropriate personnel will inform you.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

Ability to understand and implement Therapeutic Community Concepts

Ability to understand and address needs of clients with Co-occurring Disorders

Basic computer literacy including data entry.

High School Diploma or GED preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily performed in an office or residential treatment setting; and
  • Some outdoor activities may be required.

Physical Demands:

  • Requires mobility and physical activity: Having an adequate range of body motion and mobility, to work in the office environment including standing and walking (even and uneven surfaces) to interact with co-workers in the office environment, sitting for

extended periods of time, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, occasional lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds. Constant use of computer and telephone systems is required which includes coordination of eye and hand, and fine manipulation by the hands (typing, writing, and working with files). Requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle.

  • Requires talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is required to impart oral information to employees, clients, patients, and the public, and in those activities in which the employee is required to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Requires hearing: Hearing is required to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication.
  • Requires seeing: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as vision adequate for driving a motor vehicle. This factor is required to complete paperwork for many of the employees essential job functions and when driving a motor vehicle.
  • The normal work routine involves no exposure to human blood, body fluids or tissues. Job duties do not include performing or assisting in emergency medical care or first aid.

Mental Demands:

  • Requires the ability to collect and analyze complex numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions.
  • Requires the ability to work and cooperate with clients, co-workers, managers, the public and employees at all levels in order to exchange ideas, information, instructions and opinions.
  • Requires the ability to work under time deadlines.
