Litigation and E-Discovery Data Specialist

Cooley is seeking a Litigation and E-Discovery Services Data Specialist to join the Litigation team.

Position Summary: The Litigation and E-Discovery Data Specialist is responsible for coordinating and managing firm-wide source code reviews, configuring and deploying computer systems for source code review and providing related support to ensure firm and client security protocols are followed. In addition, the specialist will provide data collection and forensic services in litigation matters. This role will act as a specialist who will formulate, implement and follow proper data collection procedures to ensure adequacy and accuracy of the process. This position will also follow and provide documentation for source code workflow, data collection processes and tracking electronic evidence. This specialist will also provide back-up support and guidance to litigation support and trial services located in other offices as needed. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities:

  • Provide support with source code review, including configuring, deploying and managing physical and virtual systems upon which source code will be reviewed
  • Maintain highly detailed project-related notes and documentation related to source code reviews
  • Implement firm policies and procedures related to source code reviews, including ensuring proper security protocols and working with case teams on protective orders regarding source code reviews
  • Install and test programs and source code review systems at user site and monitor performance of source code related review systems after implementation
  • Assist legal team and LEDS with project planning and, development of source code related document review protocols, searching, testing and sampling and source code review and production
  • Help design and execute data collections for use in litigation from client or third-party systems, including, cloud-based repositories
  • Design and implement sound collection workflows and processes
  • Use leading forensic software to identify, collect, preserve, and analyze electronic data from laptops, desktops, servers, backup tapes, cell phones, PDAs and a wide variety of other media
  • Manage, track, and maintain detailed documentation and chain of custody of collected electronic evidence for litigation and e-discovery
  • Provide technical support and advice related to litigation related data collection, source code reviews, litigation technology and electronic discovery
  • Develop process documentation and user training materials directed by LEDS management
  • Troubleshoot issues as they arise with source code related systems, data collections, litigation teams, and processes
  • Communicate with and provide back-up support for LEDS colleagues in other offices
  • Follow department policies and procedures related to data collection, source code review policy, litigation data management and litigation support
  • Maintain working knowledge of and stay current on e-discovery and litigation support technology,
  • Adhere to firm wide client/matter data classification and management standards in identification of client related data
  • Expectation to bill time on an hourly basis
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of billable and non-billable time and review IntApp entries prior to month-end closing
  • Travel to other Cooley offices and client sites for collections and source code reviews as necessary and directed by LEDS management
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience:

Required:

  • Available to work overtime, as required
  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Highly proficient with standard computer equipment, laptops and printers
  • Available to travel to domestic Cooley offices
  • 3+ years' experience handling data collections from custodian and network data sources, including cloud-based repositories
  • Conversant with electronic discovery and risk management issues, concepts and legal processes.
  • Experience with administration of native applications, multiple versions of Window operating systems and other OS, including but not limited to Mac, Ubuntu and Linux based systems
  • Strong hardware and software troubleshooting technical experience
  • Familiar with all aspects of software interaction with network systems and business application systems
  • Thorough understanding of data collection tools and processes, relational databases, Microsoft Access, litigation support related software and technology, and possess deep understanding of desktop and network operating systems
  • Ability to create detailed, process-oriented documentation of all source code and collection related work

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree with preference of Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or Management of Information Systems
  • Possess some forensic and collection certifications such as: SCERS, CFCE, CCE, EnCE, ACE, CEECS or comparable certification
  • Ability to program in languages such as: C#, Java, Python, Pearl, Bash scripting, PHP, etc and experience with desktop engineering, knowledge of scripting. SQL and Network servers
  • Prior experience working with GoogleVault andMicrosoftPurview
  • Prior experience working in law firm or vendor environment

The expected hourly pay range for this position is $45.50 - $55.50. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
