Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Legal Solutions Architect. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Chicago; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle; Washington DC; or Wheeling, WV) and consideration given for 100% remote US locations.

Responsibilities

The Legal Solutions Architect will support innovation projects throughout the firm by developing and implementing new solutions using various technologies and custom development, demoing and piloting other technologies to make recommendations for project management, process improvement, and adoption at the firm. The Legal Solutions Architect will be expected to understand lawyer and staff workflows and firm technologies at an expert level, and be able to recommend best practices that will enable all personnel to work as efficiently as possible. The Legal Solutions Architect will work independently and cross-functionally on a broad range of projects, including but not limited to, developing custom-built solutions, data visualization dashboards, collaboration dashboards, and document and workflow process automation.

    Use technical skills to build custom solutions requested by lawyers and cultivate other resources that require specialized development work and do not exist on the market, or will not be licensed by the firm, including, but not limited to, requests for AI-based solutions, data reporting, collaboration, and automation.
  • Using technical background, make recommendations on best technical approaches and tools to leverage when building custom solutions, including providing detailed pros and cons and cost analysis of available options.
  • Gather, review, and analyze business requirements for document automation projects by interviewing stakeholders and creating robust documentation for business and technical requirements.
  • Stay up to date on the latest document automation features offered by our current document automation business partners and identify areas for improvements.
  • Create forms, assessments, documents, surveys, and workflows to meet the document automation goals of our internal and external clients.
  • Scope, manage, and implement other innovation projects undertaken by the Innovation team using technology such as the Microsoft Power Platform, Formstack, and AI tools being licensed at the firm.
  • Perform functional, regression, user acceptance, and other related types of testing for solutions being built.
  • Measure and report usage of solutions built to stakeholders and leadership on a recurring cadence, including building data visualization for reporting as needed.
  • Leverage learnings and usage data from previous solutions built to make recommendations on future solutions.
  • Evaluate and assess new products and technology, including participating in and contributing to pilots and proof of concept programs.
  • Prioritize requests based on business needs and requirements in line with strategic priorities of the firm and the Innovation team.
  • Participate in client meetings to demo solutions and technology as needed.
  • Assist with operations and other deliverables for innovation projects as needed.
  • Continue building development skills in new tools being licensed at the firm.
  • Support and maintain the development of various databases and platforms used by the Innovation team, including the internal portal and technology database, and share knowledge where applicable.
  • Engage across the firm to promote innovation and proactively identify and promote opportunities to use technology and innovation to solve problems.
  • Develop and deliver training on legal services resources and technology.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record that includes creative problem solving, workflow analysis, and development of best practices. The selected candidate should also possess:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft SharePoint and Dataverse, adept at creating frameworks and designing complex relational databases.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI, with a proven ability to work with diverse datasets, identify business requirements within BI contexts, and create data models for transforming raw data into actionable insights. Experience in running DAX queries and functions in Power BI.
  • Experience with Microsoft PowerApps, including a clear understanding of PowerApps formulas and development methods to create both canvas and model-driven apps.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Power Automate and Logic Apps, including designing, creating, maintaining, actions, and triggers for complex workflows.
  • Proficient in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience working with SQL and No-SQL databases, including ability to write queries preferred.
  • Ability to diagnose application issues.
  • Proficient in doing advanced-level computations on data sets.
  • Working knowledge of Scrum and/or Kanban.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms.
  • Experience with serverless programming.
  • Deliver enterprise applications and technology using productivity tools and ability to decide what can be done with low-code vs. traditional coding (80/20 rule).
  • Prior demonstrated document automation (e.g., HotDocs, Formstack, ContractExpress) experience preferred.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as exceptional attention to detail required.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and skills as needed.
  • UI/UX experience is a plus.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, concurrent projects, and competing priorities while maintaining calmness and tactfulness in a dynamic and deadline-driven service organization.
  • Ability to analyze data and reports; develop use cases, and create functional requirements documents for systems and tools.
  • Strong analytic, project management, and research skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, coupled with a positive outlook; public relations and diplomacy skills must be excellent.
  • Team player able to adapt to a changing environment and multitask assignments, and able to approach problems with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm, and innovation.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills coupled with the demonstrated ability to present complex ideas to attorneys, managers, clients, and the general public.
  • Ability to travel as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is:

  • California Major Markets* $98,000.00 - $134,000.00
  • New York City $113,000.00 - $134,000.00
  • National $88,000.00 - $113,000.00

* California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica. All other California locations fall within National range.

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
