Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Staff Modeling Engineer to take ownership of our "digital twin" system model.This role reports into our System Controls organization and is vital to making sure our Performance team and our Controls team can confidently translate their designs from simulation to the real world. This will allow our novel multi-day storage systems to meet its performance targets and reliably charge and discharge from the grid. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!

What you'll do:
  • Implement complex system design models which integrate mechanical, thermal, chemical, and control theories of operation, Matlab / Simulink

  • Identify and build or contribute to physics-based reduced-order models of our cell, thermal, air delivery and ventilation systems, and power electronics.

  • Produce accurate energy and roundtrip efficiency outputs to track program performance against system design goals.

  • Analyze data from simulation, HIL, and test articles, and deployed projects to develop and refine models and control systems.

  • Build our core "digital twin" model that will enable performance engineering to track the performance of the fleet in the field.

  • Work cross-functionally with cell R&D, cell modeling, mechanical system design, and software organizations.

What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's degree or greater in an engineering discipline (or equivalent)

  • Experience simulating dynamic models of electrical systems

  • Experience with model-based design in Matlab / Simulink

  • Working knowledge of Python and/or simulation software packages, and functional software engineering skills.
