Position Description

The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for providing financial, administrative, and clerical support to the organization. This is a key position that will have a daily, ongoing impact in helping manage cash flow and controlling expenses in accordance with financial policies and procedures to drive the business forward. The successful Staff Accountant must be able to multi-task, while instinctively readjusting efforts to focus on high-priority tasks. This position is highly customer service oriented and requires excellent communication skills to work with customers and collaborate with internal teams and external partners. This role is expected to adhere to all company policies and safety protocols.

Key Competencies Required to be Successful as an Staff Accountant

  • Perform daily cash analysis accounts payables transactions to ensure R.S. Hughes' financials run smoothly.
  • Manage and reconcile the subsidiary ledgers to ensure balances are accurately reflected in the general ledger; analyze data and reclassify journal entries as needed within the General Ledger and coordinates necessary corrections in the subsidiary ledger.
  • Validate financial balance sheet accounts and bank reconciliations for accuracy to ensure all documentation corresponds correctly.
  • Carry out month-end close process by following internal procedures and protocols; including but not limited to accruals, journal entries, settling suspense and clearing accounts.
  • Manage corporate credit cards and reconciliation process in accordance with the Company's spending policy; make payment on credit accounts.
  • Prepare checks and check registers; maintain accurate records of all vendor payments.
  • Prepare personal property tax returns, business licenses, census, annual reports etc.
  • Manage the preparation, issuance, and reporting W-9s, 1099s, and other Annual Government Form
  • Monitor tax liabilities and requirements: ensure income, payroll, and other tax liabilities are paid timely in compliance with federal, state, and local government agency requirements.
  • Oversee the fixed asset system for accounting, processing, and recording of assets (tangible and intangible)
  • Responsible for distribution and management of company phones and tablets
  • Acts as back-up for Payroll team
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education/Certification/Licenses

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline Required.
  • Three to five years of in-depth accounting experience Required.
  • Career concentrations in A/P or A/R will not be considered.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; expert level Microsoft Excel skills required.
