Join Berkeley Lab's elite team as we seek a skilled Security Systems Technician to play a pivotal role in safeguarding our cutting-edge facilities. This position ensures our Physical Protection Systems are fortified to the highest standards. Under the guidance of seasoned experts, you'll dive into the heart of security, tackling everything from installation to maintenance with precision and expertise.

This role be the linchpin in our defense strategy, responsible for the intricate web of access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems. This role is about understanding the intricacies of technology and security, interpreting blueprints and diagrams like a master architect to bring our systems to life.

Reporting to the Lead Technologist, you'll be entrusted with tasks that demand more than just technical prowess. You'll need to apply your knowledge and judgment to solve challenges, making critical recommendations that fortify our defenses against any threat.

What You Will Do:

  • Install, test, maintain, and repair access control, video surveillance, intercom, and alarm systems to LBNL standards.
  • Mount and connect system components, such as card readers, cameras, and intercoms.
  • Support project planning and documentation efforts.
  • Conduct regular testing and maintenance on system hardware.
  • Configure and install new equipment for optimal functionality.
  • Document operational performance and work orders.
  • Interpret construction drawings and manuals for installation procedures.
  • Handle moderately difficult assignments.
  • Assist with system administration tasks as needed.
  • Work with Lenel OnGuard and Avigilon foundation certifications.

Additional Responsibilities as Needed:

  • On-call availability for occasional emergencies.
  • Up to 5% travel for training and events.

What is Required:

  • Proficient in access control, video surveillance, networking, and basic electricity
  • Possess a valid driver's license and willingness to travel.
  • Skilled in interpreting procedures and drawings.
  • Able to use electronic test equipment and tools.
  • Essential proficiency in Google and Microsoft Office.
  • Obtain LBNL Qualified Electrical Worker certification for performing low-voltage power within 1st year.
  • Familiar with safe work practices.

Notes:

  • This is a full-time career appointment, non-exempt (hourly paid).
  • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
  • Salary will be determined based on range by collective bargaining agreement.
  • The full hourly range for this position is $33.42 - $48.47 per hour. Hourly pay for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualifications and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, plus also aligned with the internal peer group. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position.
  • This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
  • This position will involve access to hardware, commodities, and technical information subject to export control regulations including, but not limited to, the Export Administration Regulations ("EAR") and/or International Traffic in Arms Regulations ("ITAR"). Accordingly, any hiring decision may depend in part on Berkeley Lab's ability to obtain or rely on federal government authorizations as required, if you are not a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S. ("green card holder"), asylee, refugee, or other qualifying protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
  • Work will be primarily performed at: Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
