Department Purpose

EMS Lab Assistants assist the EMS Division in the delivery of pre-hospital care education.

Job Summary

Contract EMS Lab Assistants assist with delivering EMS educational content for the Fire Departments EMS Educational offerings, including, but not limited to, the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) classes, CPR classes, and Stop the Bleed Classes. EMS Lab Assistants participate and assist both the Program Director, Lead Instructors and Part-Time Trainer 2s with the implementation and evaluation of students in the UCDFD EMS courses and assist with logistics and other tasks as assigned by the EMS Division.

Specific days will be assigned, and the EMS Lab Assistant must be willing to work Saturdays and Sundays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average- weight objects up to 50 pounds and standing and/or walking for more than four hours per day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Minimum License/Certification:

  • Certification/Licensure CA licensure as an EMT, EMT-Paramedic, or other related medical license for EMS classes is required.

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Successful completion of an EMS course for the disciplines in which the instructor is assisting.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Skills to teach and facilitate hands-on skills training.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation. Knowledge of the delivery of emergency medical services in the state of California.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Skill to assess student performance during skills sessions and provide appropriate feedback.
  • Skill to adhere to established standards for educational quality.
  • Skill to perform logistical needs such as inventory, clean, and restock EMS equipment and gear bags needed for EMS classes.
