Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Clinic Manager, Specialty Clinics, assists students and faculty in all clinical aspects of patient care and treatment.

Essential Functions
  • Perform chair side duties to include four-handed dentistry in all assigned pre-doctoral clinic areas.

  • Retrieve messages from voicemail, schedule patient appointments.

  • Assist students and faculty with taking and printing digital radiographs.

  • Restock supplies, clean and maintain equipment as needed, report supply needs in a timely manner according to established procedures.

  • Pour diagnostic models and perform minor laboratory procedures; assist students with the same; maintain a tracking list of all lab cases.

  • Work with students and faculty to clean, sanitize and maintain dental operatories.

  • Assist as needed in explaining clinic procedures and policies as they relate to dental treatment.

  • Assist with and conduct Special Care Clinic and community public relations projects.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Clinic Manager, Specialty Clinics.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • Dental terminology and treatments
  • Chair side dental assisting
  • Sterilization and infection control procedures
  • Emergency procedures including CPR
  • General office methods

Ability to:
  • Recognize and set-up dental instruments
  • Perform chairside assisting duties in all assigned roles
  • Apply patient management and time management skills
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Utilize computer/scanner to employ bar-coding system
  • Utilize clinic management system to access patient information and treatment records; accurately enter/update information in system
  • Maintain and utilize equipment, instruments and supplies

Experience:
  • Minimum of one-year dental assisting experience

Education/Licenses:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current RDA license
  • Current California x-ray license
  • Current CPR certification

Working Conditions:
  • Position is full-time, five (5) days per week, seven and one-half (7.5) hours per day
  • Occasional overtime may be required
  • Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens may reasonably be anticipated. Personal protective equipment will be provided to reduce or eliminate exposure to routine or limited infectious agents

Education/Licenses:
  • Current CDA license desirable

  • Position requires alternative sitting and standing throughout the working hours; occasional reaching and bending

Hiring Range 30.88 per hour
