This role reports to the SDS Quality and Metrology Manager and is a hybrid opportunity based out of Mountain View, CA.

In this role you'll:

• Manage mechanical, electrical, optical component quality (non lidar) at Waymo
• Develop and implement Supplier quality programs including continuous quality improvement initiatives to improve supplier Quality and Reliability performance over time
• Manage and resolve quality issues, guide failure analyses, establish root causes, and guide corrective & preventative actions
• Perform regular audits of Supplier manufacturing facilities and assess production control and quality programs, identify shortfalls to expectation, and directly secure resolution
• Collaborate with design, manufacturing and process engineering teams to improve component design that is suitable for mass production
• Provide on-site support during manufacturing bring-up, equipment qualification and measurement correlation between manufacturing sites (contract manufacturer sites)

At a minimum, we'd like you to have:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
• 8+ years of relevant work experience in mechanical design, manufacturing and/or quality assurance
• Comprehensive knowledge of high/low volume manufacturing processes for mechanical and/or optical components including forging, stamping, CNC, die-casting, injection molding, anodizing, painting, plating, polishing and welding processes etc.
• Detailed knowledge of GD&T, SPC, PFMEA, 8D, DOE and quality management system
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%~40% of the time

It's preferred if you have:

• Advanced knowledge of quality standards ISO9001, IATF16949 and ISO26262
• ASQ Certification
• Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma knowledge
• Hands-on experience developing and validating automated inspection equipment and mechanical gauges. Experience with CMM & OMM hardware/software
