Job Description

The UT Southwestern (UTSW) Department of Psychiatry, in conjunction with the Peter O'Donnell Brain Institute, Parkland Health and Hospital System, and Children's Medical Center of Dallas, is seeking a board certified Addiction Psychiatrist to join our faculty and serve as our research co-lead for addiction psychiatry. The researcher will have the opportunity to build upon our department's outstanding teaching, research, and clinical programs as we grow our addiction psychiatry academic division of the department.

We seek a physician who will help our Department achieve our goal of working with our community partners to develop clinical, educational and research initiatives intended to help children and adults in north Texas stay mentally healthy.

The research co-chief will assist department leadership in implementing and leading a research strategy for addiction psychiatry that supports the recruitment of diverse, high-caliber faculty who will enhance our scientific efforts. The research co-chief will also collaborate with educational leadership to offer excellence in medical education in addiction psychiatry; and, collaborate with our clinical co-chief to assure that clinical operations in addiction psychiatry are consistent with UTSW's position as one of the nation's top academic medical institutions.

Increasing the Department's leadership in clinical and translational research funding is a high priority for this position. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of excellence in addiction psychiatry research; specifically, academic and scholarly accomplishments commensurate with the criteria for appointment at the academic rank of associate or full Professor at UTSW.

The position includes a clinical assignment that will occur through our Department or it partners: Parkland Health and Hospital System and/or Children's Medical Center of Dallas, and/or other community partners consonant with need and physician interest, with the physician also providingaddiction psychiatric care in one or various of these settings as part of one of our multidisciplinary teams.

The successful candidate's appointment within the Department of Psychiatry also requires regular participation in educational activities with medical students and residents. In addition, the physician will provide leadership for clinician-educator collaborators that allow for the joint pursuit of innovative research initiatives.

Qualifications include an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas, or the ability to obtain prior to appointment; Board certified in general psychiatry and addiction psychiatry; eligible for credentialing and privileging by our collaborating partners in our community; eligible for appointment as an associate professor or higher in the Department of Psychiatry; demonstrated leadership, clinical teaching, evaluation, and communication skills; ability to influence/motivate others at all professional and administrative levels; must be an innovative self-starter with a commitment to excellence; must possess tenacity, self-motivation and initiative necessary to drive the development and maintenance of established and new programs.; a track record of being able to lead, direct, and influence a team regardless of reporting lines, as well as be a team player.Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full-time schedule.
